How to Identify an RLH

The table below is a general summary of the different types of identifying plates and numbers, and includes links to photographs showing where brass plates etc. can be found on a real bus. For a bus fleet list giving individual identity numbers, click here.

  • brass plate on offside dumbiron- front of chassis frame
  • brass plate behind radiator filler cap on nearside exterior

AEC chassis number
  • brass plate on nearside dumbiron- front of chassis frame
  • square plate on engine bulkhead cab interior to left of driver
  • stamp in outer side of left hand chassis frame near front, visible to nearside of engine block, under bonnet

London Transport chassis unit number brass plate on outer side of left hand chassis frame near front, visible to nearside of engine block, under bonnet 2xx 100xx
Weymann body number interior circular plate in front of cab door

Note: The rectangular body maker plate is located at the top of the staircase, facing the road, stating 'Bodywork incorporating Metro-Cammell-Weymann Patented Metal Construction' but this does not identify the individual body
